Guild Retreat!!!

Next weekend is our guild retreat!  Are you excited?  I for one can't wait to have two whole days of kid free sewing time!!!  :)  We will meet at Vanisha's home to sew and visit. Bring your machine, a project (or two or three!) to work on, and a dish or treat to share.  A main dish will be provided both days at 1pm.  Come for the whole thing or come when you can!

There is no set time for either of the tutorials.  We can do them whenever we have the most people there or repeat several times if necessary.  :)

Materials needed for the tutorials:

Wide Open Pouch here
Car Trash Bag here

Remember to bring your dues if you haven't paid for the year.  See you Friday!

Retreat in June - Materials for Open Wide Pouch Tutorial

For the Open Wide Pouch I will be using this awesome tutorial from Anna over at Noodlehead. Here is the bag I made using a honey bun roll (1 1/2 inch strips).  If you would like to do a bag with piecing or patchwork on the outside you can sew up anything you like and then cut to size.  I sewed all the strips together and then cut the outside pieces from that.

For a medium pouch you will need:

Outside fabric - 9" tall x 12" wide (cut 2)
Inside fabric - 9" tall x 12" wide (cut 2)
Interfacing - 9" tall x 12" wide (cut 2)
Zipper - 12" or longer (you can always cut the zipper down to size)
Zipper tab fabric - 2x3"

*If you would like to make a handle for your bag cut a piece 2 5/8" x 15" instead of the 2x3" zipper tab piece.

You can use whatever you prefer for interfacing.  I like to use Pellon Shape-flex.  If you are making a larger bag and would like more support you could cut 4 pieces and double up or use fusible fleece instead.

Retreat in June - Materials for Car Trash Bag Tutorial

Our retreat is less than a month away!  Are you excited?  I am!  It has been awhile since I have had more than just a few minutes to sew and I have a whole stack of WIP's that need attention.

At the retreat Vanisha will be showing us how to make this cute trash bag for the car.

You will need:

Outside fabric - 20x12"
Inside fabric - 20x11.5"
Handle & lining fabric - 20x6"
One coordinating button

*If you haven't already signed up at the guild meeting please let us know if you will be making a bag so we can have your pellon lining cut and ready for you!*

*You can easily make this with 2 fat quarters for a bi-color bag or with 3 fat quarters for a tri-color bag.*

If you have any questions feel free to email me at rachel_mardis@yahoo.com. :)

Kaffe Fassett Contest!

The Modern Quilt Guild has announced the Kaffe Fassett Essay Contest on their blog.  You don't have to be a member of a guild to enter.  The question for the essay is "How has Kaffe influenced you in the past and how will that help you grow as a quilter in the new year?"  Check out the details and the list of prizes by following the link above.  Good luck!

2013 - A Fresh Start

Friends, we have had quite a drop off in attendance over the last few months.  I don't know if this is due to the cold weather or other conflicts people may have but we have some big things planned for 2013!  If you are interested in being a part of our fun, modern, stitchy group (even if you aren't able to come to every meeting) please come join us next Tuesday, January 15th.  We will be doing a little planning for the new year and discussing new officers.  We will also be making sewing kits.  They are so adorable and so simple to make!  Even better, the guild will be providing all the supplies for you!

When:  Tuesday, January 15th, 2013 ----> 6:30pm
Where:  Material Girls, 1645 W Towne Center Dr, South Jordan, UT 84095
What:  Planning activities for 2013 and making Sewing Kits!  (All supplies provided by the guild!)

We hope you will come join us and invite all your fun, modern, stitchy friends!
